Description
This position is responsible for assisting DOT and Storm water engineers in the location and designation of potential pipe replacement projects. This position manages a field survey crew assigned to mapping and inspecting DOT/Storm water Infrastructure and maintains the DOT/Storm water Infrastructure GIS Database.
Examples of Duties
Manages the DOT/Storm water Infrastructure GIS Database; incorporates Survey Data into the existing DOT/Storm water GIS Database; manages a Field Picture Database; incorporates Field Pictures into the DOT/Storm water GIS Database; manages of a field survey crew and plots specialized maps; assist’s engineers in designating pipe replacement projects; recommends new software add on’s for improved data analysis functions; trains and assists survey crew on the usage of GPS with Mobile Matrix; perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, GIS or Computer Science, Surveying or planning.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in GIS, Computer Cartography, Geography, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, Surveying or Engineering.
-Experience with open source GIS software (QGIS, GRASS GIS, etc.)
-Experience with ArcGIS version 9.3.1 and higher
-Experience with developing Arc GIS Desktop Add-ins and Python Scripting.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the functions of this position will be considered.
Possession of a valid GA driver’s license.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge of various surveying and storm water system hardware and software; knowledge of mapping techniques and procedures; knowledge of drafting techniques and Photogrammetry; knowledge of conventional and specialized surveying procedures; ability to effectively use a GPS to carry out daily work procedures; skill in computerized drafting; demonstrates effectiveness in oral and written communications; skill in dealing effectively with the public.
