MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the daytoday operations of the GIS division. Manages ongoing GIS projects. Plans
future projects for GIS. Coordinates GIS activities with other departments and divisions, the
general public, vendors, and consultants. Administers the GIS databases, network, and
applications. Assists the general public and other departments with GIS and addressing related
problems. Trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Performs other
related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of management practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of GIS technology
and its applications. Knowledge of the hardware and software used in GIS applications. Skill in
problem solving and decision making. Skill in operating standard office equipment including
work related computer applications. Skill in the supervision of personnel. Skill in the analysis of
GIS data and in the creation of GIS related reports. Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a
baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience sufficient
to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions
and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia
for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting,
standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy
objects and must distinguish between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an
