Improving Emergency Response on Trails with GIS and USNG “ We are implementing a marker system using the US National Grid (USNG) Emergency Location markers (ELMs) standard. This project involves the installation of over 1000 markers throughout the County. ELM’s are placed every ¼ mile along the trails, informational signs installed at trail heads and each location added to our GIS system, as an address point. The ELM’s allow quick communication because the injured caller does not need to know what city they are in nor what trail section they are on.
Jennifer Lana is the current GIS Manager for Cobb County. Jennifer has 20 years of professional GIS experience from the technician level to the management level. With a BS Degree from Salisbury University (Maryland) and a MS Degree from Mississippi State University. In her current position, Jennifer oversees Cobb County’s geospatial strategy in collaboration with a great group of GIS professionals.
