GIS TECHNICIAN

FULL TIME

$18.91 per hour

Position Overview:

The purpose of this classification is to assist in producing, maintaining, and manipulating maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases by using a variety of software and hardware products according to the needs of the County agencies and municipalities, as well as the general public.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Digitizes information; creates, manipulates, and maintains GIS database; compares/QC zoning information, and tax digest

Researches plat information; coordinates with Assessor’s office on map and parcel questions and errors

Edits parcels in County coverage; creates new parcels using ESRI’s Arc suite of products and associated commands needed to process data into a useable format

Plots maps; prints maps; changes plotter paper and ink

Assists with field solutions and data collection

Assists with mapping requests from County departments and the public and aligns map production with the cartographic standards of the department

Assists with coordination of addressing with postal officials, Planning and Zoning Departments, E911, and Tax Assessors in alignment with addressing policies and procedures

Attends training, seminars, workshops and meetings to maintain current knowledge of industry trends and technology

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**) Continued:

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, or other software programs

Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems

Operates a scanner and uses various scanner software

Regular and routine attendance at work is required

 

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Answers the telephone; takes messages

Researches plats at courthouse

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed

Performs other related duties as required

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in geography, or closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes Arc/Info training and computer experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Preferred certifications:

GIS Fundamentals Foundation
ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Professional
ESRI ArcGIS Pro Associate or Professional
