The Ray is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and net-zero highway testbed, located on 18 miles of Interstate 85 between Lagrange, Georgia and the Georgia-Alabama state line. The stretch of interstate was named in memory of Ray C. Anderson (1934-2011), a Georgia native recognized as a leader in green business when he challenged his company, Interface, Inc., to pursue a zero environmental footprint. “The Ray Highway” testbed is paving the way for a zero carbon, zero waste, zero death highway system to build a safer and more prosperous future for all. About this Position

  • Title: GIS Manager
  • Reports To: Director of Regional Programs
  • Position Type: Salaried, full-time position
  • Location: This position is located in Atlanta, GA
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday

The Ray is pursuing partnership opportunities with transportation agencies across the U.S. to scale the innovative technologies and methodologies successfully demonstrated on The Ray. To support this scaling effort, The Ray has developed and continues to develop GIS-based resources and tools to provide specific and actionable data that our partner organizations can use to design and build sustainable transportation projects.

The GIS Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and manage GIS maps and applications
  • Perform data capture and analysis
  • Efficiently manage geospatial databases and aerial photography
  • Accurately maintain GIS database information by interpreting data from a variety of sources and creating, verifying, and updating information in the GIS database through the use of GIS software and tools
  • Acquire, download, correct, integrate, and analyze data provided by The Ray’s partners into existing GIS datasets
  • Troubleshoot and find innovative solutions to be able to perform analysis when datasets are incomplete or missing
  • Develop presentations, Storymaps, and other media to communicate results
  • Attend partnership meetings with transportation agencies as requested

Team Operations

  • Support and guide The Ray team members on Esri’s suite of tools, e.g., Survey123, Hub, Storymap, etc.
  • Recruit and manage interns for the GIS team
  • Coordinate the activities of the GIS team, including full-time staff, interns and volunteers, via regular virtual and/or in-person meetings, and via project management software such as Google docs, Google drive, Asana, etc.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, to report on project status
  • Participate in meetings of The Ray board and/or meetings of the Advisory Board of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation as requested
  • Create new documents, processes, and procedures to organize team tasks and initiatives
  • Support information requests related to The Ray fundraising and grant-making activities
  • Maintain and manage accurate contact records using the organization’s EveryAction relationship management software
  • Provide updates to the Deputy Director and Executive Director, as warranted and as requested

Other

  • Other duties as needed or assigned

Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • 5 years of experience conducting analyses using ArcGIS
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Analytic skills and experience
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online web maps and apps
  • Detail-oriented and experienced in quantitative data analysis
  • Experience and proven ability to lead teams and manage staff
